There is a God and He is not a bully

Something I keep hearing if there is a God then he’s a bully, why doesn’t He fix what’s going on? OR If God is real then He is a homicidal ego-maniac and YOUR Bible proves it.  I keep thinking on that.  The fact for those that are saying that need to read the Bible or better yet ask God themselves.  God hates evil more than any of us could or would.  I don’t claim to have all of the answers, but I know one thing.  GOD IS LOVE.  HE LOVES EVERY ONE OF US.

As I approach this, I am trying to look at things through God’s eyes.  Let’s look at this first.  Why doesn’t God fix what’s going on? He did. He gave us all free will.  He gave us all the ability and choice to love each other and take care of HIS creation.  Guess what we do? We mess it up.  The best way I can explain is as a parent.  You have a child that you cannot help but love so much.  You try to lead that child.  Day by day you see your child strive for independence.  You want that child to have that independence.  He crawls, he walks, he runs.  He learns to make decisions on his own and learn from them.  Then those teenage years come and early adult years come.  The pain and heartache of watching your child fail…watching your child refuse to listen to you…watching your child that you love so much reject you and your wisdom and make small mistakes and make big mistakes.  And you know you have to let them go so they can grow and keep learning.  That does not take away from the fact that you tried.  They still make choices against your wise advice.  Sometimes those choices can carry on for generations and affect millions of people.  We live in a broken world.  That does not take away from the fact that we have a choice to mend it.  It may be as small as sharing a Twinkie or giving someone a smile.  So how is God fixing it?  He created me and He created you.  He gave us the ability to love, have patience, and grow in wisdom.  God is not somebody else that can handle it instead of you.  God is Somebody that will handle it with you and will help you…If you let Him.

Now, is he an egomaniac? Well, I’m just going to say this.  If you really read the Bible, you will learn that God destroyed people who could not be saved.  They were so far gone they had to go.  For example, Look at cancer.  Cancer are a bunch of cells that do not belong, take over, and destroy.  The only thing that can be done is eradicate it.  You cannot change cancer to suddenly love the body and act like the rest of the cells in your body. If you read many stories in Old Testament, you learn that the tribes that were eradicated had very sick and disgusting practices such as raping, pillaging, and murdering that were spreading like wildfire and contaminating mankind.

Now you can ask if there is a God, what did He do to help?  In the Old Testament, He walked with man and talked with man.  He tried to guide them.  He sent men to help Him spread his message and this carries on today.

There are no real good answers on why some bad things happen besides we live in a broken world.  Don’t think for one minute that God is not crying with us and is not trying to help us through.  He hurts when we hurt.  Think about it this way, when your son or daughter rejects what you’ve been teaching them…how does it feel?

Here’s a question:  Why doesn’t He just take our free will away?  Do you want to live in a world where you love someone and have them love you back because they have to?  or laugh with you because you tell them to?  or cry because you make them? I don’t.

In the New Testament,  He added a game changer.  He came, died for man and man’s brokenness, and rose again.  Not just Christians but ALL man.  God’s Word says He came to seek and save all who are lost.

2 Peter 3:9: The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Because we are broken, He came and sacrificed Himself during one of the most brutal times (if not the most) in history.  He conquered death so that we may have life with Him.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

It is amazing when you look for God what you see:  A baby’s laugh, a sunset full of colors, beautiful ocean waves of greens and blues, grandma’s infectious smile.  It goes on and on.

Till next time – for part 3.  Hopefully my thoughts won’t be so jumbled.

I love you all and may the Lord bless you and keep you.
