Why Jesus? Is He Real?

There are so many things out there that about Jesus and whether or not He existed and whether or not He is the only way to God.  Honestly, it’s really frustrating.  Okay, it’s irritating.  Why?  Because He is Jesus the Messiah,  Jesus the Savior, Jesus the Creator.  That has been proven over and over and over. So here goes:

Did a man named Jesus exist? Of course He did.  Many who have tried to take the time and not make fun of their research have found this is absolutely true.  It is important that you are well informed.  Unfortunately, the more famous ones such as Josephus and Tacitus who did not even believe in Jesus as the Messiah are being debunked.  I have never heard of a historian be debunked.  However, there are non historian sources as well from scholars.  Why wouldn’t those be included?  Did only historians write about Columbus and George Washington?  I challenge you to watch “A Case for Christ”.  Watch it often.

Also, do not be afraid to use Biblical sources.  People try to say that the Bible should be discounted.  Not only did the disciples and his followers write about someone they knew, but also wrote within the same generation of His existence.  So why should they be discounted.

  • Matthew – a Tax Collector – one of the 12. You can tell this is true by how he wrote the book of Matthew.  It was detailed and very statistical.
  • Mark – a Follower – he grew up under Jesus’ teachings.  It is believed that he began following Jesus at an early age. He is a witness of Jesus’ ministry from a “crowd” perspective
  • Luke – a physician – another follower and obviously an intellect.  Like Matthew, you can tell this is true by how he wrote the book of Luke.
  • John – a fisherman – one of the 12.  In fact his closest one.  John was known as the beloved.  He was there.  If you wrote about someone you loved, wouldn’t you want to make sure the truth about their life was spoken?

So we have 4 different people who had 4 different relationships with Jesus.  Yes, even though Matthew and John were apostles, I’m sure their relationships were different.  Even we have different relationships with our friends that we are close with.  These books coincide with each other based on those perspectives.  They do not differ.

Another Biblical author who should in no way be discounted is Paul.  Paul was a true scholar, an attorney, a Pharisee.  Even more, he hated Jesus and his followers.  He had a pretty good life.  He dropped everything and I mean everything to follow Jesus.  He risked his life to follow Jesus.  In fact, all of Jesus’ apostles and many followers risked everything including torture to follow this man Jesus.

To say Jesus does not exist is to say these men do not exist.

Did you know that Jesus was spoken about in the Old Testament?    Here are just a few:

Born in Bethlehem the City of David – Micah 5:2

  • But thou, Beth-lehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

Born of a virgin – Isaiah 7:15

  • Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

From the line of David – II Samuel 7:12-16

  • 12 And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.

13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.

14 I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:

15 But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.

16 And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.

Seed of a woman – Genesis 3:15 – (men carry the seed)

  • And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Healer – Isaiah 35:5-6

  • Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.

Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.

There are over 300 prophecies about Jesus our Savior.  The likelihood of just these few being fulfilled is extremely high especially because these are different men from different times from different backgrounds.

This last thing I’m going to approach quickly.  Many of our young people try to follow the zeitgeist theory of how Jesus was same as many ancient mythical gods.  First of all, zeitgeist has been debunked so often that they had to remake it.  And it only approaches a few things about Jesus – born of virgin and Son of God.

Know Jesus.  Know who He is.  Ask Him to show Himself to you.  He absolutely will.  Study His word.  And don’t let a few people on Google or YouTube tell you.  YOU find out for yourself.  Whether or not you listen is up to you.  I pray wholeheartedly that you will.
